I have a small wooden mirror and a wooden base I have made. I want to get my hand on a fitting where I screw one end to the base and the other to the back of the mirror and I would like the mirror to be adjustable when it is standing on a flat surface, like ladies can adjust it for makle up etc. Any idea what the fitting is called that I am after. If I can get the right sort of thing I will make a few more.

If you mean the sort of flexible piece which is stiff enough to stay in the position where you bend it to, I'd call it a swan neck.
I can't find any for sale but maybe you could track down something which uses them but is cheap enough to raid for parts. An Ikea lamp, maybe?

Or a ball and socket type thingy like on a rear view mirror fixed to a car windscreen (or in the case of my Landcover, fixed to a lump of mystery wood which is Gripfilled to both the windscreen and the headlining!!)

Those bendy things - how about a "gooseneck" intended for a microphone from a music shop ? They come with a 3/8 BSW or 5/8 ?? thread each end.

Gooseneck! That's the bird I meant!

Plenty on ebay for a few quid.
