This is embarrassing. Yesterday I was looking through something I had written, and amongst the list I had written "long board clamp".

Now I don't know if that is a long board-clamp, or a long-board clamp. But I can't for the life of me remember why I wrote it! I've been into my workshop to see if I could find anything which would answer to that description, but I'm none the wiser.

Does anyone have any idea what I was on about? What on earth is a long board clamp?

Steve

Clearly, an along-board clamp is one at right angles to your cross-board clamps*.

*quite what use it is, heaven knows.

A clamp that's been off school for too long and really should be out in the garden playing? :?

Steve - I would without a shadow of a doubt ask Steve Wright on R2, or even better ....'ask Elvis' .....

.....mind you, a long bored cramp would have been lying around not doing much for a while :D - Rob

It was in a list of jigs I had in a running order, so clearly it was something I have made in the past.

Anyway, thanks for the sensible answers, and I'm glad your Friday afternoon hasn't been wasted to the rest of you!

I'll be more careful what I ask in the future.

CHris, that was my first thought too, but I have that separately. I must be going (even more) bonkers. It's one thing writing stuff that no-one else understands, but when I start writing stuff that even I don't understand...

Thank you, anyway!

I should have known better on a Friday afternoon...
That was the other thing I almost said.

Sorry, Steve, but even on a Monday afternoon I think you'd be unlikely to get the right answer to this one. It'll probably come to you about 4 in the morning - six months from now, IME...

Cheers, Alf
