Tried again today-failed miserably
I would just like to see if a more experienced turner could get something out of the piece i have.Any takers.

Other things to try Paul are coating/soaking liberally in cellulose sealer and leaving to dry. This stiffens up the soft areas and gives you more chance of shear cutting with a freshly sharpened gouge. May have to do this several times as you turn away the treated area.

Likewise sometimes soaking with danish oil or superglue and leaving to dry first helps.

It's borderline and sometimes not worth the time or cost but if you can pull it off it should look great........
