I think it's possibly a temporary support for something rather than a tool. 2 arms rather than 2 handles. spike to push in to the ground.

My guess is something water related - aluminium can create a spark when it hits rust (thermite reaction) so not ideal on gas systems. We've been stopped from using our aluminium steps in EXE areas on sites because of this.

Can it actually create a spark? I thought you needed crazy amounts of heat to get a thermite reaction going in the first place.

Apparently so - we were talking to a pipefitter who has actually seen a spark between an aluminium ladder and a rusty girder. So now you have to use fibreglass steps there (until there's a time limit on something, then its do whatever you like, as normal :lol: )

Just speaking to a bt chap in hospital waiting room and hes suggested it could be a lever found on western power poles to isolate electric.
