I am a great believer in the saying you should learn something new every day.
So today I learnt that scroll saw blades work best when inserted the correct way up.
What did you learn today?

I have just this minute learnt that there is a right way up. Next I will hopefully learn what it is

I have been using them to cut on the down stroke....right or wrong?
Pete

Down stroke is correct AFAIK.

Mine is wearing the right shoes when it has snowed - even to go 2 yards to the bird table

Dave (sporting a sore bum!)

Cut on the downstroke - correct. Gently run your finger up the blade and you will feel it snag one way and not the other. They will cut on the upstroke just as well, but the top surface of your work then splinters rather than the bottom. This is the principle behind scroll reverse blades, which have teeth pointing down above the table and up below the table, hence giving two splinter free cuts - in theory!
