Miles away - totally impractical...
He may have already got it sorted, however...

A mate who's an electrician had his tools stolen from his van, including a 24v Makita cordless SDS drill.

He's been on the lookout on Ebay for a replacement but it occurred to me to post a "wanted" ad on here on his behalf just in case someone has one that they're selling.

Just a thought (and, as already mentioned, he may have already got it sorted).

Did it dawn on him that most of the tools of this nature sold on e bay are nicked out of someones van??

It dawned on him that his tools might be sold at the local boot fair and he was right. Unfortunately the police could not do anything cos he could not prove they were his tools...

I've often wondered about the likelihood of the tools be sold on eBay being stolen. I've no doubt some of them are but never really been able to work out if proportionally they are in the majority of minority?

It'' be worthwhile marking the new ones with his postcode or 'smartwater' that crime prevention officers in some forces issue and they can be traced back to the loser.

I have a better method of foiling them. Within 6 months of buying something I usually break it thereby rendering it very uninteresting to the tea leafs.
