Hi, I live in South west France and have set up a woodworking workshop, but now I need some training. I'm looking for an experenced woodworker who would like a break in France (with partner if you want). You can stay with me and my family and I would pick you up from and drop of at the airport (you would have to pay your own flights, but there are cheap flights with Ryanair). And we would feed you for the week. Of course there would be a lot of details to iron out, but if you're interested in principle please get in touch.

How about a bit more info.......

..........like your level of experience, details of your workshop and tools, what sort of woodwork you are hoping to do etc.

It would be a waste of everyone's time if you picked me and then announced that you want help with turning, or if you picked one of the hand-tool experts who then discovered that you wanted help setting up a CNC router or a tablesaw.

In principle, I'm interested.........the devil is in the answers to the above questions, though!

Mike

I second mikes' query, it would help a few of the other master craftspeople here to decide if they could offer you the requiresd hints, tips and techniques.

I would be interested in helping you out, but the timing would would need to be discussed further , preferable by pm as it would involve personal data.

Also, it would help prospective tutors know your location to the nearest 50km.

If you want to know old fashioned hand skills, modern furniture techniques lik e used by the Alchemist, or the art of french polishing and general finishing I would offer myself a a tutor.

If not myself, I wish you the best of luck with whom you chose.

all the best, HS rebuilding someone else's apartment.

I can come and balls things up for you... if that helps?

Hi again,

I realised that any propective tutors would need a lot more info, but I didn't want to give too much personal info out without PM and I didn't want to bore everyone with too much info. I'll put a bit more info on now and PM anyone who's interested with more info.
I have no training other than what I've learnt from books and the internet and the odd tip here and there. I have a decent size workshop in a large barn. In it I have a planner thicknesser (kitty), a table saw (wadkin), a bandsaw (forget the make), a morticer, chopsaw, small lathe and several smaller power tools. I've made a few tables and cupboards etc. that have impressed some of the non woodworkers locally but to my mind a very low standard. I enjoy all aspects of working in the workshop with wood and have tried wood turning, french polishing and really would like to make furniture. As I have so much to learn this offer could be open to more than one person for a variety of skills.
I live in a beautiful area in the Limousin north of Limoges and very close to La Lac de St. Pardoux if you want to google that. I will send photo's of my house and the room you would be staying in via PM if that helps and any more info you like.
Thanks Tim.

Thanks to everyone for your responses. I've a similar message on a French forum twice now without a single reply. So I'm a bit overwelmed with the response! I'm going to try to reply to all the PM's today but please be patient as we have some friends visiting shortly and I don't know how much time I will have to sneak away to my computer.
A lot of you are asking what specifically I want to concentrate on. But I'm sure you have have something to bring to the party and once I have SOME knowledge I can start to specialise and be more specific.
Frankly if Ican swing it with the wife I'd like different people with different skills to come many times over the next few years, but one step at a time.
Thanks Tim.
