Wall mirrors

Is a framed wall mirror simply a picture frame (adjusted for glass thickness) with mirror glass inside or do the rebates need to be entirely different?

Are there any rules of thumb for mirror glass thickness and spec? Frame will be around a metre by half a metre.

All I can offer is a reminder that the rebates need to be painted black to avoid strange views through the edge of the glass and to point out a bit of trad detail in this thread

+1 for painting the rebates black. The edges can look weird otherwise.
