How much could I expect to pay to have a door like this picture made by a local bench joiner? Would be looking at hardwood, prefer M&T, unglazed, supply only. Standard size 2032x813

The pic is from LondonDoor, who have additional overheads such as shops, surveyors etc. I'm looking to get a local firm to make the door so any recommendations in Surrey/SW London appreciated.

I made a copy of one from London Door Co last year in hardwood for a client that had seen them on the net .Its a bit different to this one as it had a stained glass fanlight . Made the door frame glass had it sprayed and fitted for £2200. You can see the door in one of my first posts NEW FROM SOUTH WALES . Thanks Bern that is useful. I'm only looking for the door made, no frame, no paint, no glass, door furniture etc or fitting, so I'm hoping for an idea for just that part. Cracking job you did copying yours

I would estimate that there is about £250 of timber, depending on exact size and species used and about two days labour to manufacture. If it's solid wood who ever is making it probably won't be too happy to supply it without an undercoat of what ever finish you are looking to use to prevent uneven drying and potential warping of the door. If it's solid wood rather than a laminate construction you need to expect some movement once fitted.

I would thoroughly recommend having the door made from Accoya wood to give you complete piece of mind. You would have no worries about movement or rot, and longer periods between decoration. To give you some idea, we have made similar doors to this in recent years, and I would say we would be looking at around £950 to £1,100 (inclusive) for a traditional morticed and tennoned door in Accoya with a priming coat .

I paid a joiner £900 last year for something similar but in softwood. I was too busy to do it myself so subbed it out.

I see you're in Surrey so he's not far from you too if you need his number.

Ref the Accoya, from what I've read it treated softwood but doesn't move? Is that right? I have a feeling it might be more expensive to use than a regular hardwood. Is it likely to be more or less expensive in Accoya?

Accoya will cost more than a standard joinery timber like sapele....but it won't rot/ move and paint finished should last longer...

I think it is guaranteed for 50 years against rot
