Phone woke me up at just before 6am this morning and it was my neighbour telling me that he was really sorry but he had found one of my cats dead on his patio.

Very sad in my household at the moment. He was a Maine Coon, which are very big cats (this one, Dougal, weighed about a stone and a half) and have personalities more like a dog than a cat. They are extremely affectionate and daft at the same time.

Not sure what happened to him as he was only 5 years old and was happy as Larry when we went to bed last night. He had a lot of vomit around him and his stomach is very swollen, and as we live on an old farm, surrounded by farms, we are wondering whether he might have picked up some kind of poisoning.

Taking him to the vet in an hour to get checked, just in case it is something that could affect his brother and sister.

A very sad Trim :(

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your cat. Aways wanted a Main Coon.

Pete

Very sorry to hear.

It sound very much like poisioning I'm afraid, poor fella.

How sad :( . It's always so hard when a loved pet is lost, especially before its time. My thoughts are with you.

Much sympathy...we have two British Blues that don't come any more stupid (as cats go  ) so I know how you're feeling - Rob

Thanks for all the comments

Just got back from the vet's and it looks like he died very suddenly of Feline HCM. Basically a virus that can cause heart disease which most cats get (the virus that can trigger HCM I mean) at some point in their lives and most fight it off and are fine.

The swelling of his tum is apparently fluid around his abdomen. Feeling really bad now that we noticed the slight swelling 2 days ago but he didn't seem at all unwell or in discomfort so booked him into the vets for Friday to have it checked out. Looks like we took it too lightly :(

Vet said it looks like he had a massive heart attack, so hopefully the little fella didn't hurt too much.

Will be keeping a very keen eye on the other two now for expanding tummies....

Mark

Very sorry to hear the news. Its so difficult to know how to react to small changes in your pet esp when they can't talk.

Its a horrible time for you - I wish you all the best.

Cheers

Tim

very sorry to here about that , my cat nearly lost her leg a few months ago but she pulled through

Woody.

Sorry to hear about your cat Mark.

We lost a cat (Penny) last month after being with us for about 13 years. It was heartbreaking losing her and we still both miss her.

I can certainly sympathise with you.

regards

Brian

Sad news indeed Mark. Mrs Pig and I have 2 moggies so sympathise with you fully. We hope Dougal has left you with some lovely memories as our previous cats have.

Regards,

Piggy
