I know Dad's are always going on about their kids  but I feel very proud of my son, Scott. We've just got back from Bournemouth where today he has passed his final test for his Commercial Pilots Licence.

Any of you who have done it will know that it is a long, demanding and expensive process but very satisfying when you finally get there.

Here's a few snaps

Nice one Paul, if you weren't proud of your kids acheivements then you wouldn't be a very good parent. Congratulations to the both of you.

Martin

Many many congratulations Scott.

Paul, didn't you know that money is the root of all children.
How come your son comes out good looking with your camera and I didn't :)

Terrific news Paul.

Well done to both of you (yourself for funding and encouraging it !) =D> =D> =D>

In a nutshell, yes :) Let's hope that's not as long a process as the previous bit

Cheers

Paul has achieved something wonderful. I know from my time in the air force that commercial licences are very, very difficult to acquire and it's quite right that he should be very proud. I should imagine he required a bit of support from his immediate family too, so credit goes to his wider family too.

Paul, form those photos, I think you should start calling him 'Maverick' or 'Ice Man'.

Anyway, congrats.

Thanks Gill and Simon.

Congratulations to your son, I suspect the hard work starts now trying to find an employer. Will he have to do the ATPL or is that the commercial pilots licence.

Thanks Senior and Waka. I'll pass that on.

Senior, the CPL was the final bit in getting the ATPL. It's a bit complicated because there are different ways you can do it. What Scott has now is known as a frozen ATPL (the frozen becomes unfrozen when he has completed 1,500 hours). What the ATPL comprises is the PPL (Private Pilots Licence); passes in 14 ATPL Ground School Exams (these cover VFR communications; IFR communications; Aircraft General Knowledge; General Navigation; Radio Navigation; Principles of Flight; Aircraft Performance; Meteorology; Mass and Balance; Instruments and Electronics; Operational Procedures; Air Law and Air Traffic Procedures; Human Performance and Limitations; Flight Planning and Monitoring; you don't want to know how hard that lot were  ); Class 1 Medical; IR (Instrument Rating); Multi Engine; Night Rating; and CPL (Commercial Pilots Licence). He's now also about to do a course for the Multi Crew Cooperation Certificate.

Hope that's clear :? Actually the training and testing never really ends when you're a pilot.......

Cheers
