My wife and I have been at our Daughters for the last 3 months due to my wife's medical condition.
We came back a couple of days ago after her recovery from various hospital visits.. (I'm 87 and my wife 85)
It was just getting dark as we arrived home. We went in and switched on the kitchen light. It came on but not full brightness, then flickered, flashed on and off and went off .
Checked the fuse board and the light trip was still ok and the lights upstairs were working. There is only one trip for the lighting circuit.
As it was getting late I decided to isolate the lights until morning and then start to investigate. We spent the rest of the evening with table lamps and torches,
I removed all the light switches to see if there were any loose wires and then did the same with the light pendants but found no problem.
I have done some house wiring in my early years and I noticed that there were no looped lives in any of the switches or the ceiling pendants.
To me this meant that under the floor boards upstairs there were going to be junction boxes.
My son in law rang to see how I was getting on and after telling him the problem he said "I'll pop over" although he lives 120 miles away.
Starting in the furthest bedroom from the fuse board we took up the carpets, and floorboards working our way along the landing until we found this outside our bedroom door.
Replaced the junction , checked the cables and left in good order
