Somebody will do your job for less money. Isn't that just free market economics?
It happened to me too, as a freelance firmware developer, I couldn't compete in the global market against people who'd work for a tenth of my expectations. That's life. You can get angry, or you can accept that it's inevitable. Luckily I paid off the mortgages while I could, and never assumed that the good times would last forever.
Exactly, and it had always been thus.
What makes new angry is useful idiots that continue to maintain that it isn't due to unrestrained immigration when personal experience says otherwise.

Tell you what; hop across to France and try to get back into the country via the same routes used by immigrants. You may well achieve it, but you'll likely find it's not "uncontrolled".
British guy did just that a few months back, showed how easy it was.

Are the employers paying the lower wages not responsible? Immigrants would prefer higher wages too.
Maybe you should be in a union and insist on immigrants also joining it.
Unsure why you got a couple of negative reactions to that; you'd think the idea of employers paying all staff a fair living wage would not exactly be controversial for most normal people. The fact that it is I guess is the reason why there's such a massive gap between those at the bottom and those at the top.

Well I'm my experience it's just down to globalization and the internet. I wasn't competing with immigrants as such, but still market forces.

Not a free market if not open to all, including immigrants.
Another simple example of the daftness of free-market ideology. It's supposed to work out best for everybody. All very well if you can choose who to exclude!
Maybe you just need to try a bit harder?
Hope that helps.

Any details? Would be interested to read.
Being a British guy might have helped him get in with no problems.
Or did he dress the part, beard, burka, yashmak, kaftan etc? Carrying a copy of the Koran and a hookah in his haversack?

Immigration has a massive effect on wages. Due to the influx of cheap labour, via legal channels, I and many others in my skills area found ourselves out of work and the wages of the remaining jobs massively reduced and stagnated. Don't tell me it doesn't have an impact, I almost lost my house because of it as did many others. I get very angry when people like you dogmatically insist on something that goes contrary to my lived experience. I expect you and others so intent on massive immigration have never experienced the impacts but will continue to deny the reality as they believe the skewed statistics from their leftwing sources.
When did you almost lose your house?

“the MAC review concluded that immigration had had little impact on average wages, according to previous research. Some studies had found a small negative impact on average wages, while others found positive average effects.”

MAC = Migration Advisory Committee (report under Tory govt)

Left wing sources huh

I think we'll maybe give this thread a rest. You canny discuss the topic, all the usual nonsense from the usual (mostly). Disappointing, bit like leaving kids alone in the classroom. Really wish some of you would act your age, not your shoe size.
If there's another similar thread opened by somebody who thinks they just can just carry on with the rubbish spouted in the last 30 or posts, best not.

Would've been interesting to discuss or chat about issues more international than the usual Tory/Labour/Reform nonsense. And it's always the same members who abuse threads like this.
