With 73m voters I am quite sure any report on their intellect could represent them as inconceivably thick and stupid, or exceptionally bright and articulate.
If you have been fed the former and believe it to be true, you have uncovered an echo chamber not a serious piece of commentary.
Research shows Trump voters are less likely to be college educated, so it’s more than an echo chamber.
But that’s not really the prime driver.
Trump is a right wing populist, he uses all the usual populist techniques, but the one primary driver of populism is people feeling they have been left behind and have no voice
…..the irony is that people get left behind by decades of rising wealth inequality, a result of right wing free market ideology, which exactly what populists like Trump want to increase.
So people fed up with massive wealth inequality, voted for Trump who will increase wealth inequality.
It won’t end well for the poor in America: more transfer of assets to the wealthy, less tax paid by the wealthy resulting in less public services…,which are needed most by the poor.
In the U.K. Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage and Brexit are all the same thing.
Trump managed to use the global financial crisis caused by covid and Putin to blame Democrats for price rises…..and the people fell for it.
When weak political systems and weak mainstream media allow the unabated spread of gaslighting, propaganda……the one who wins is the one that is prepared to lie the most.
Without checks and balances there is no democracy.
