Indeed it was. Now, get over it and plan for a better future.
Brexit put massive trade barriers between U.K. and its nearest and largest trade partner.

Planning for a better future means rejoining the Single Market, I presume you support that?

er - what's taste got to do with it?
Because...hostages are dead because Hamas took them hostage, ***** the women and mutilated many, then kept the hostages that lived through that in tunnels. To blame Israel is actually victim blaming Jacob and it is a tad tasteless that you are so blinkered in favour of the Hamas Palestinians that you apparently can't see that and simply blame one side. Hope that helps.

From a JD Vance interview on YouTube a few weeks ago with Shawn Ryan::

If European nations want the US to support NATO they should adopt American values, such as free speech and other basic American values……American power comes with strings attached

Musk should be allowed to do as he pleases in Europe with Twitter and not be subject to EU laws and regulations otherwise US gov will punish the EU/Europe.

Proposed “peace” plan would see Russia hold on to seized territory and then build a demilitarised zone along current lines to prevent Russian invading further and that Ukraine declares neutrality.
Germany and other European nations should pay for rebuilding Ukraine but not Russia.

All sounds perfectly sensible and reasonable………….

Good grief.

Time to develop a European army under the auspices of the EU.

Trump has promised America:

Food prices will plummet
Gas prices will plummet
Car insurance will be cut in half
Inflation will disappear completely
Bring down mortgage rates
He will deport millions of undocumented immigrants
He will end Ukraine war before being inaugurated
Impose Huge tariffs on foreign goods
Healthcare will become a lot less expensive for everybody

those people on here who said Trump is a much better choice than Harris, would they like to comment on what they think Trump will deliver?
Whether he delivers some, none or all we will have to see. No different to Starmer and Labour who also have a full term to deliver that which they promised or their supporters expect.

Like Labour - he won the election on the back of promises and expectations some, not all, or which will be delivered. He will rationalise failure - if he even recognises failure. More likely history will be re-written to record that which he wanted to happen, not what actually did.

Difference. Starmer chose his words very carefully and avoids commitment where possible. Trump doesn't do subtlety so his failings are likely to be more obvious.

Europe for decades ridden on the back of US financial support for NATO.

It is entirely fair that we contribute our share of the cost.

The risk that US support may be withheld should not be the only motivator. NATO was established 75 years ago when the economic and political environment was very different. That it may not now be entirely fit for purpose is no surprise.

If we want peace then NATO is worth supporting. 32 members currently (with the notable omission of Switzerland). The more countries we have who agree to support each other defensively, the better. But it is still very reliant on individual state funding as a percentage of GDP, and arguably GDP is not a good indicator of defensive need on a national basis. For example proximity to likely threat may be relevant, as my strategic importance in a nuclear war.
I would think many countries could bribe the US to assist if they are willing to have US weapons, missiles and troops on their soil. Traditionally the UK has been fine with this and is an aspect I presume of the imaginary special relationship.

Countries having to pay their way in NATO is fine, but this kind of nonsense is, well, nonsense.

The Israelis hold large numbers of Palestinians as hostages and are widely reported to treat them inhumanely, including sexual abuse, currently, and from the start in 1948.
7000 including women and children according to this: https://www.hrw.org/news/2023/11/29...any-palestinians-detention-and-available-swap
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_and_gender-based_violence_against_Palestinians_during_the_Israel–Hamas_war
To blame Israel is actually victim blaming Jacob and it is a tad tasteless that you are so blinkered in favour of the Hamas Palestinians that you apparently can't see that and simply blame one side. Hope that helps.
Blame for the current state of affairs in Palestine is, as ever, with those who have the power, namely the Israelis and their backers; USA, UK and others. The Israelis have had every opportunity to set up a democratic state in Palestine but instead decided on settler colonisation from the start.
As for the hostages - Israeli "precision" strikes killed numbers amount to 70% women and children. Either this is deliberate slaughter of the innocent, or careless collateral damage.
They would have to be unbelievably precise not to be also killing the hidden hostages in unknown corners, tunnels etc. Also there are reckoned to be 1000s under the rubble not yet accounted for. It seems utterly improbable that non of these would have been the hostages
The Israeli families protesting against Netanyahu all know this and have no great hopes of seeing their loved ones ever again.
The 6 hostages killed in September are blamed on Hamas but this seems extremely improbable - because what is the value of a dead hostage? Also there has been no independent evidence made public and it's reasonable to assume that they were just more Israeli "collateral" damage
The whole thing is "tasteless" in the extreme. The popular simplistic narratives entirely blaming Palestinians are irrelevant and extremely tasteless in themselves.

You are starting to appear more than a little antisemitic Jacob. You say daft and provocative things and try to provide a smokescreen with your endless internet links. It's quite odious behaviour at times as you are unable to take ownership when you are offensive.

Absolute nonsense. I am amazed that you are so out of touch with current affairs!
Very many jews themselves, worldwide, including a large proportion of the Israeli population itself, are utterly disgusted by the behaviour of the Israeli hard right.
A large sector of judaism does not even support the Zionist notion which led to the formation of Israel.
Anti zionism is not antisemitism. Neither is opposition to genocide and "ethnic cleansing", whoever is committing it.
More links here! Sorry to disturb your simplistic world view but you need to catch up. I can see it might be a shock if you only read the Mail or Telegraph. You are not alone!

PS another informative and thoughtful link here https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2023/11/anti-zionism-not-anti-semitism/675888/
If these are "a smokescreen" where would you go for a clearer view?

I've got him on ignore now. Just because... what's the point? He just makes me want to do the "silly person" thing and that's not mature, is it.

EDIT: O-M-G, as the kids say. The auto censor thing turns i-d-i-o-t into silly person. How funny is that 🤣 .

Yup. See also Brexit :D . When it becomes as objectively true as it's going to get that it was all a bad idea, they'll double down and say it's still a great idea but they've been betrayed. Rather than say, yup, I got taken in that time.

I've been taken in myself before, you know. Truth hurts and all that, but gotta deal with it.
These people on the Trump Train are on there for the long haul. A very few left, most will drive it over the cliff before admitting there was ever anything wrong.
Can you say "cult leader"

Obfuscation as ever Jacob. If you can't see that you are behaving in an antisemitic manner then there is no hope that you will ever display some humility and moral fibre. I know you are elderly now so presumably are very set in your ways and opinions. I wish you well.

Where and when Tony raises a real issue it happens. A large percentage of his posts (excepting the recent interesting Russian piece) are just Daily Mail reader whinges about "the left".
Straight from the Guardian reader's handbook I see!
Sorry but I just don't subscribe to left wing total nonsense...if that upsets people enough to put me on ignore it says far more about them than me.
In all the years I've been visiting internet forums I've never once put anyone on ignore no matter how obnoxious they came across in their posts toward me nor have I ever reported a post made by someone.

It says an awful lot about their character or should I say lack of it that they have to put someone on ignore because they disagree with other party's perspectives.
If they feel hurt enough to put someone on ignore simply for disagreeing then might I suggest that they refrain from involving themselves in subjects like politics as it usually means there is likely to be a conflict of opinions and we wouldn't want any of them to feel hurt now would we?

Offensive remarks. I am not remotely antisemitic but you are too stupid to see this.
