The tumble drier will be more efficient used at its rated load.
The most important thing to remember on a tumble drier is to clean the fluff filter after every use.
No one ever does though. When I check ours I pull off a 7" square blanket that could be donated to charity.

My neighbour was a service "engineer" for white goods, mainly industrial. He said the problems with fires in dryers is caused by fluff that leaks internally and builds up to high levels in places that aren't accessible in normal use. The leaks shouldn't exist, of course, but they do.

no it's not. You need to feed it and cothe it as well, which means lots more washing.
