just need opinion on whether the cams are necessary and if so where I might get some.
The cams are designed to make it
initially easier to deal with parallel alignment (i.e., blade to fence). Once this setting is aligned, the cams are locked down and act as location posts for refitting after removal. For that job, they're ideal.
There is, however, another way around it. If, as is usually the case, you only intend the saw to be used with the table and will not be removing it from its chassis for hand-held use, then there are two or three points on the saw base itself that will take a tapping and you could bolt the saw to its chassis once aligned to your satisfaction. Providing you drill the bolt holes accurately in the chassis, this method will be as good as the locked cams, but
without the convenience of instant removal (for hand-held use).
I would be happy to use a couple of diagonally-opposed holes, but you may see an opportunity to use more. The difficulty with this option is in aligning in the first instance and
keeping the alignment when drilling, but I'm sure that your ingenuity will find a way.
