Same over here and in Belgium. Teh odd about it is that the scrap meal prices are not that high. You need to steal a lot of it (at least multiple near thousands of kilos) to get enough dosh to be worth, especially if you consider the load of work and risk often taken. The damage they do is also not in any proportion. And often they are not smart either.
At a site a mate worked a while ago they stripped the just installed copper roofing, destroyed about 12,000 of roofing plate installed and about 34,000 of labour cost to rip the copper plated plates with a scrap value of almost nothing :shock:. Also the same with ripping the wriring of rail road crossings, high replacements costs, trains cannot run, traffic backing up all day, etc.
