For some reason the wooden "Round Spinney Things " have taken a back seat for the last three days.

______4 1/2" Metal Lathe_________________ and a new Roof on the Garage. (26' X 12'6")

No WIP 'photos I'm afraid on the latter, fighting Rain, Sleet & Snow on day one and day two was too hectic to get the camera.

Day three was in two parts, part one was 1 hour of rather heavy expletives for myself and LOML to get Lathe (95 kilogram) out of the boot of the car and up to the shed, whilst chippy mate procured remainder of timber following our design decisions on roof; part two was the huffing and puffing whilst affixing Lathe to bench without removing finger tips etc.

Oh Chas--the metal lathe is great!

But a new roof to keep things warm and dry is nice too.

So is that a sky light [at least that's what we call 'em here]? Over your lathe area?

Take care, Mike

Yes at last, been in Aircraft engineering all my life and it has taken the frustration of not being able to make the odd little adapter or gadget for the wood turning for me to get my act together. (with a 45,000sqft workshop for my last 10 years I did not have a need for some reason)

The new roof is the result of 20 years of frustration since I moved in that the builder originally fitted a "FLAT" non draining roof, being woken up on spring mornings by a thousand and one birds having a bath plus the odd weep resulting from the lake which formed with the age related 1/2" sag finally prompted me to do something about it. New roof now added clear of old structure by some 5-8" and with a fall in two directions to down drain. just hope the heavy rain stays away until monday when it is due for it's raincoat.

Sky light is over Rear Garage workshop which is too small to accommodate metal lathe, it is keeping Wood Lathe company in another workshop, Not ideal because of oil/wood dust combination, just have to be more meticulous with covers etc. Screw cutting gearbox! ! just worked out it is 47 years  since I last worked out gear ratios in earnest so that will be a blessing.

Nice one Chas!
I enlisted two others to help with my lathe (eh Jorden)..............could have done with four others, described as a bench lathe, boy they must make big heavy benches in Germany  We didn'y weigh it but it must have been 150kg. Like you I have been after one for an age, now I have it I'm not sure what I did without it. :D

This one came from a former work colleague who has three others, a Myford Super Seven with all the trimmings, a Boxford (1 1/2 ton) and something even more exotic that I can't remember (it was under dust sheet) other than it was something like a 8" swing with all the gearboxes you could dream of.

Having to squeeze past the large Axminster milling machine and mobile tool chests did nothing for my Boy Toy " I will not Envy" vows either.
