..so wish me luck. After a long slog of nearly two years   the renovation project is coming to a milestone and the Man from Del Monte...sorry..Building Control..is coming to make the final inspection and sign-off. Remind me never to do this again.

So in England you do not need to put the wires in pipe in the attic`s??

You don't need to put them in pipes anywhere I don't think!

At least that's the impression I get when I look under my floorboards.

I hope that the inspection goes well for you, Roger. Let's hope you get a reaasonable person, rather than the usual "jobsworth" that the role seems to attract. :)

I suspect you lot over the water do this because of the sort of animals that live in your roofs.

Over here like everything else the animals are a much more modest size

oh, and a NO would have been so much more amusing!

Well done Rog.

Actually it is the next animal that moves in that is not electricity inclined who may get hurt....Also we use pipe for safety, ever drive a nail into a wall to hang a picture?? Hit anything?? Not if its in pipe.Drive nails to hang drywall or screws...sure wished you would have used some pipe as your shakin about...
Oh and we do have rodents that like to chew on Electic stuff...

We have regs about where cables can be run ("safe zones"), and how deep (beyond nail depth), and conduit (pipe) is only generally used where those cannot be complied with. RCDs are compulsory. Our electric safety regulation standards are way ahead of yours (fact, not patriotric boasting, we are way behind you at all sorts of things, like playing baseball and that rugby-in-tights-and-padding game, and making hamburgers).

also its completely possible to drive a nail or screw straight through a pipe - wise man he say use cable detector :D
