Sweet! Like a cross between a circular saw and a Rotatrim! I also have a little wooden box/jig that works with my TS55 for smaller cuts - does mitres too, well handy!

Cheers, Pete.

That does indeed look very handy though, they'd probably have been better off making one that was 'universal' and would take any brand of circular saw. Do people have much faith it the quality of Skil kit, generally?

Great idea, though. You could leave the table saw and SCMS in the workshop for almost any job. :)

Do you have some pictures? I want to do something similar with mine.

B&Q sell one under the macallister brand. Im not sure it will be as good quality as the skil one, but its pretty much the same tool.
It seems all right for quality, i had a good look at it when I used to work in B&Q. Sold quite a number, mostly to DIYers but also to a few tradesmen. It cost £99 when i left in august, though it may have increased in price by now.

Regards,

Michael

No, but I'll do a couple tomorrow and post them here. It's very simple - built it because I was tired of lugging the big mitre saw around just to cut piddly little bits of trim onsite. Dust collection is a bonus too ;)

Cheers, Pete

Looks very useful if you're doing that sort of work.

OK here's the little jig I made. It's very simple, made on a box base so I can clamp it onto a surface or just plonk it down on the floor:-

The saw rides on a 6mm MDF 'rail' with a small strip of 6mm MDF glued in place for the saw base to ride on:-

The little metal pin locates the 'rail' at 90° - or if you have a lot to do, you can just screw it in place...

For small pieces of lipping and moulding, you can usually just plunge the saw to make the cut, for bigger pieces you need to guide the saw along the 'rail' in the usual way:-

I added the facility to make a mitre cut, because I needed it once - the rail just pivots around a screw...

...and again, it's located with the metal pin.

It's been chopped about a bit - started life as only able to take material max. 18mm thick, but was extended by 6mm when I need to to cut some 3x1. It's no Kapex, but it's simple, dirt cheap, and a lot easier (with far better dust collection) than lugging my mitre saw around

HTH, Pete.

I have a shop bought version similar to peter's paid about £40 four years ago cuts almost any angle and is adjustable to take any circular saw or router I suppose it can be used with any power tool that has a flat base

The one I knocked up was just a couple of battens fixed to a piece of MDF then I just used the Festool rail but when I get a chance I will make a decent one like yours. Its amazing the uses you find for the TS55 I have mitred skirting and architrave when I couldnt be asked to get the chopsaw out and it comes out spot on. The other day I had to make a letter box cutout in an expensive oak front door and it was perfect for doing the horizontal cuts then its just a matter of jigsawing the vertical cuts.

Love that Peter. Why not post it in the Jigs section. Really handy for DIY or onsite trades.

Cheers guys! It's a silly little thing really, but very handy for small stuff, especially if you want a decent edge to the cut. I use it a lot when I'm fitting floating shelves to trim the lipping on the front edge to length, and because of the dust extraction I can use it right there in the room.

@Wizer - hadn't thought of it, but hey, good idea; I'll get it done :)

Pete

I dont know what the skil saw will cost in uk but might be good value, however while not offering the ripping facility (except for using fence) and probably costing rather more, I like mafells kss cross cutting rail included in the MAFELL KSS300 maximax saw. It works very well and is less bulky as well as providing a very compact plunge saw to boot. Well worth checking out.
