I mentioned a few weeks ago that I nearly had permission for that all important WS extension, I was planning is an extra 14' x 8'.

As you can imagine like all women there has to be conditions before the final approval is given.

The picture below shows how to touch the right cord and get that final go ahead.

It was only a cheap one for HID's to learn on, she already plays the guitar and piano.

Let me tell you it was the best few hundred quid I've spent in a long time.

Planning on work starting in the summer.

oooh that's how you do it! I just had to buy HID a new 4x4 to gain permission for a new P/T #-o ](*,) :-k

Although I'm nearly at the confirmation stage of a new TS  \:D/

PT and TS? I hope I'm not being cited as a bad influence in your house 8-[

Been having a play with SU, as you can see I'm not very experienced. Tjhe red section shows the proposed extention, this will make the WS 36" long, the old section is 12' wide. I'm already planning how the extension is going to be fitted out.

Don't worry your name has not been mentioned..

She's so happy with her new car I could probably wangle an incra positioner to go with it! ;)

Waka: are you doing the extension your self? Brick or Timber?

WiZeR

Its going to be brick construction, I'm not doing the work myself apart from the roof beams and sheeting, my friendly builder recons he can have it up in a couple of weeks. I'll go for the fibreglass roof like the existing, again I'll get someone in to do that. About a week for the electrics, insulation and panelling the internal walls. I reacon from start to finish and in use about a month.

Hi waka

weird sketch the piece in red is the planned new extension any reason it not against the house and right to up to the end cable that way only two wall built and not as shown three

Hi Waka, may I remind you that marriage is like a violin, once the beautiful music has ended, the strings are still attached.

As you can see by the sketch the windows are lower toward the end of the house. Now I could drop the floor down to compensate for this and drop the roof coming in under the windows, but HID's has drawn the line at that. So I'm back to plan B.

The reason for coming out 14' and not to the end of my house is because the 14' brings me in line with the end of my nieghbours house, which I think is a comfortable place to end.

Hi Waka

yea OK i understand about the neighbour line of sit sort of thing , i did notice the windows were lower at that point in your house any possibility of lowering the roof height to the new extension or redesigning the workshop inside to allow for the lowered height taking that in to account with the layout inside the workshop seems silly to leave that amount of space outside the workshop when it would be better off inside the workshop , extra space . question what would that space outside the workshop be use for nothing? and it still means a third wall which means your builder will charge extra for?.

Martin

I agree with what you are saying, and the original idea was to come up against the house wall, but HID's has drawn the line at that, so I'm grateful for any extension space I can get. I also have to bare in mind that I don't have a lot of space in the back garden, I also want to use the existing door.

Waka - smart move, nothing like a bit of bribery and corruption to get things moving nicely along  When I first saw it I thought it might have been an additional project for Feb and been posted in the wrong forum  - Rob

Glad to see that your negotiation was successful, one small point the space from your proposal to the house could be built on if the roof line for it only was at a lower level as this reduces head room its not so useful but it would make great storage for sheet goods, timber, tools etc and as already pointed out it saves a wall and is easy to arrange any water discharge etc should cost about the same as your proposal.

I keep showing HID's the posts about going fight up to the house and the practicality of it, still no green light and I don't think is likely to be. Believe me I would love that extra on the extra thats been agreed, but alas it'll not happen.

regarding sheet storage I have that in one of my other garages, which also doubles up as a finishing shop for big pieces, all hardwood is in the original workshop.

The extension is predominantly for the following:
Pillar drill
Bobin sander
Morticer
Disc sander
lathe
Tormak + Axminster grinder
and possible the band saw
All these are on mobile stands, except the pillar drill.

This will then free up wall space for a tool cabinet along the lines of Chris Knights, also it will allow me to have the table saw permanat positioned, instead of having to pull it out everytime.
