The forum may have had it's problem with arguments (which thankfully are happening less frequently) but smouldering just under the surface has always been the real sprit of UKWorkshop ,where members go above and beyond to help each other.
On most occasions this offer of help comes from someone you have never even met, and they do not do it for financial gain, all they want is help a fellow member with no strings attached. :D

So what has prompted this post? Well as some of you will know I got myself a giant of a Axminster Plus bandsaw a couple of weeks ago, and in a post I mentioned that when I put the saw together I would do a review, but as the thing was so heavy I was going to wait until I purchased a mobile base and then build it straight onto that. Then before I knew it John (Benchwayze) had contacted me and not only offered me a base, but would not accept anything for it :D
I have never met John but this morning a very well packed box appeared, and inside was not only the base but because he did not have the instructions, was a photo of how the base went together.

From talking to John I get the feeling that my personal thanks to him was good enough and he would not really want or expect this thread. But as I tried to explain to him, the forum has taken enough knocks lately and its about time that the other side of it is shown. The side that is here 99% of the time when we are not arguing.

So thanks John now I can start putting my bandsaw through it's paces, and along with Ian Johns blades do a review. (I hope that I get more interest in that then I have had in my head to head mitre gauge reviews  )

Anyway guys this is your chance to thank those others who have helped you in someway. It does not matter how they have done it, just as long as they have. :D

Cheers

Mike

nicely done john

I started writing a thankyou post but then realised that there are far to many people to list who've helped or given me stuff in the last three years so i figure its best to just say thankyou all rather than risk offending someone by leaving them out.

It is the true spirit, Riley gave me £40 quids worth of Blum drawer runners for nothing the other week. People can knock UKW all you like but its still got some of the best people on the internet in our walls!

I was very keen to purchase a second-hand lathe that Devonwoody had for sale. However, I was in Scotland and DW - and the lathe - in Devon. :(

On hearing that I was willing to drive to Devon  to collect the lathe, DW (John) offered overnight B&B for myself and wife - very comfortable including tea in bed :!: :!:

Another example of the kindness offered from one member to another, neither knowing each other except through the exchange of a few PMs.

There seems to be a veign of trust and comradeship running through UKW :)

There have also been numerous occasions when I have received advice - directly and indirectly on UKW :D :D , and I hope on a few occasions I have been able to return the favour :?:

Strength to our arm I say

Dave

Well said, hear hear,

Now, about that Axminster Plus Bandsaw you said you'd lend me Mr C. No rush, get the review sorted first.

What Mr S :?: But I have just tracked the saw with T1T Delivery Service and they claimed to have delivered it to you this morning :?: They said that some bloke who looked like Zippy from the magic round about signed for it.

A senior moment Mr C?

Or is it the ol' Alzheimers again?

Boiing Zippy arrives. Dylan the hippy rabbit tokes on his spliff " Gotta stop smoking this **** man Zebedee looks like that annoying twot from Rainbow"

Ah yes - Magic Roundabout - Time for bed

But I digress. I can only add my experiences with the forum.

I've received countless useful replies to questions I've posted and hopefully helped a few others with my (somewhat pedantic) ramblings.

I've been offered and received odd pieces of surplus kit where all that was asked was the postage.

I've done the same, quite happy to give stuff I no longer need, not wanting or receiving anything in return.

It is all this that makes this such a useful and (usually) friendly place - I usually check in here every day after checking my bank account (I feel I need to keep an eye on the bank!)

So everyone, please don't change and keep up the good work. As 'Young Mr Grace' used to say "you've all done very well"

Group hug.
I've both received and donated surplus kit from/to forum members, and - as has alreadybeen said - anything I've bought from a member has been good, very good.
In spite of odd niggles this forum has an unbelievably helpful streak underpinning everything it does - and that is where the majority of the members spend their time.

That's odd?. My message was all in normal font size. It, or parts of it, would only 'appear' to be in small font to those afflicted by the dreaded 'A' .

Yes, clever, Mr S !! And only those old enough to suffer are likely to be sitting at their keyboards in the middle of the day sending one another silly messages !! :D Must get out more - the garden does requie some more planting out!
