caretaker, I would recommend that you obtain or borrow a copy of The late Keith Rowley's book , "Woodturning A Foundation Course

It would help you no end with the basics of tool descriptions and usage.

As for help from books, I will order tomorrow but will read what I have at work first.
I have now got a lathe, picked it up this afternoon, on the look out for wood now to give it a go.
