Having been a lurker here for quite a while I am now tempted to register and thank you guys for a recommendation…………I have been struggling with a crappy bench top band saw for several years and eventually came to the conclusion that really good bench top band saws don’t exist (please point me in the right direction if this is not true..) so instead I decided to get a better blade.
After reading on several threads about the quality of “dure-edge” blades I ordered a couple and they arrived this morning …its amazing what a difference this has made, it has transformed a band saw that I was ready to chuck in a skip to a tool that I enjoy using and actually manages what I want….so once again thanks!

hi nke, welcome to the forum. its suprising what help you can get on here and all for free. just ask away.

Dure Edge selling again? That's good news.
They only shut down for a very short period. They're back again with a slightly reduced range, but the quality is a high as ever

Whilst on the subject of bandsaw blades . Joe greeners in Newcastle do excellent blades and talk about service, I rang to see how soon they could make me some and was told to come and collect them in a couple of hours.

Many thanks for the welcome from all; I’m, enjoying it here.
In reality I probably won’t have lots to contribute as I am in a very specialised area of wood work, but I learn lots from following discussions and find it reassuring to find a group of people who are as passionate about tools and materials as I am…

I’m a violin maker, and I think reasonably good at the specialist skills required for making stringed instruments, but appallingly ham fisted when it comes to general woodworking skills.

Hi Neil. As you will have realised from your lurking there are several other luthiers here and so I hope that you will feel free to share your experience in this field with others. I have to say that personally it fascinates me how you can go about making an instrument like a violin from scratch and get it to sound good at the end. Do you also play the violin so can appreciate the sound at the end? I did read somewhere recently that due to cheap imports of violins from china the market for handmade instruments was becoming increasingly difficult. I seem to remember too that there was some sort of quota on production in Italy with Luthiers only allowed to produce a limited number each year. Oh well enough of my ramblings - hope to see you around the forum in the future.

Steve
