I have been looking through Tage Frid's book on Joinery and the section on Half Blind and Full Blind Dovetails (Lapped and Secret Mitre).
To finish off cutting the pins he uses the side of a steel scraper blade (and hammer).

Anybody used this method?

Hi Rod

A few years ago I was inspired by Tage Frid's video, inwhich he used a bandsaw blade.

I built something a little easier to use, a "chisel" the width of a saw kerf (using a steel garden trowel).

It get pounded into half blind dovetails the same way.

Be sure to add a clamp on the side of the board to prevent splitting. DAMHIK!

A recent example ..

Yes, same source, same method. As Derek says, splitting is often a problem so you may want to clamp the piece and/or take a preliminary chop at the base of the dovetail.
