Hi,

Looking to purchase my first table saw for hobby and general DIY use. Workshop is 6m x 2.7m so a little limited in width

I started off looking at the Axminster TS200 but, although it appears to be a good saw, having read a lot of reviews and posts I now think should have something with a 10" blade. Like the idea of being able to use a dado cutter, but know there are mixed feelings about them.

A cast iron top, induction motor, 10" blade appear to be the main considerations.

The options appear to be:

Axminster AW10BSB2 (£681 for basic setup)
Charnwood W650 (£755)
Record TSPP250 - seen second hand (approx. £500)
10" Saw from WoodfordWM - not the TC10RAS, but similar with slightly different spec (£750)

So what does anyone think?

Not sure and someone will correct if i'am wrong but i dont think you can fit a dado cutter on those saw's

I wouldn't worry too much about the dado- they are said to be quite handy but there are other methods that will do the same. For general hobby use, you won't get the benefit of running repeat pieces often. There should be plenty of reviews on most of the saws on the forum if you search. The woodford xcaliber models seem to get good reviews but I think the oft raved about one is a little over a grand so may be a different model.

There is a scheppach one that gets mentioned from time to time model 2500 something and I like the kity stuff, although not cast iron topped.

I have no idea how good they are but there's a guy over on the woodhaven who used to post here a lot selling the Charnwood. He's had it a couple of years and having read his posts it will be well looked after. It's going with an axminster router lift in the wing for £650 I think. If you decide this is the saw for you the one rob is selling will be a good buy

And no I'm not related to him, saw his advert earlier and was surprised he was selling it

thanks for the tip off Mark, but I can't find the Charnwood for sale on The Wood Haven. Can you point me in the right direction

Are you a member? I seem to remember you have to join up to see the forsale threads.

You need to register withthe forum (most use same user name in both forums) then log in. Once logged in the for sale forum appears in the list. I think it's arranged this way to prevent it being exploited.
On this site you need something like 20 posts to be able to reply to the for sales to prevent a similar thing
