We have a small Jotul 602N woodburner. They are not cheap. We bought ours on eBay and used it for two years before the sides cracked as we had been sold one without the necessary baffles! New sides just bolt on.
However, its the only heating we now use. It heats the front two rooms and the bedroom above where the fire lives. We use those three rooms in the winter!
We use all the sapwood and bark offcuts as kindling and usually burn oak as main fuel although it will burn anything.
After four years solid use, we got about a cupful of soot when sweeping the chimney. Its been done just once in all that time. Those Scandanavians know all about cold weather. Every Godin I've seen out here just doesn't seem to want to burn properly and friends who have them usually say they regret buying them. But then they are French - the stoves that is.
Everything else French is triffic of course.
