has anyone else just heard about steven gerrard being cleared of assualt? I have to say i find it ridiculous that when cctv clearing shows him and his mates punching someone he gets let off, and it is definitely because he is famous.

Gerrard can be seen walking behind the bar in the club, lifting stuff and walking out again obviously feeling free to do so because he is a famous footballer. I think they need to shrink their egos a bit and come back down to reality!!!

It was a fair trial, although the jury was on the large size.

Call me a cynic, but perhaps the jury may have had a different view of things if the rest of the people charged had kept their pleas as not guilty and all 7 had appeared in the dock together.
It would be far more difficult to isolate one defendant as not being involved.
Now if the boot was on the other foot, would Mr G plead guilty to being involved in a brawl to save one of his mates? I think not, misguided loyalty and hero worship have secured the result here.

I imagine the very best legal representation money can buy may have helped too.

I stupidly thought that they would make an example of him, so delivering an uppercut is clearly ok, if you say I meant no harm.

It`s called self defence. After your mate elbows him in the face causing him to bend over you come in with a few punches to his head just in case.
It`s perfectly reasonable behaviour! Any scrote will tell you so.

Never mind all that, what the hell is a professional athlete doing out in a bar in the small hours in the middle of the season?

I wonder how many cyclists in the Tour decided to cane it on the rest day of this years TDF. Time for footballers to grow up and behave like the well rewarded athletes they are

Well cyclists haven't got time for fights, they are too busy finding new ways to take drugs, most corrupt sport out there.
The images of a rugby player gouging some ones eye out were clearer in south Africa, yet he wasn't prosecuted.
Don't get me wrong, he got off because he is able to employ the best, but don't think footballers are any different from any other spoilt athletes.

Or the one doing most to catch and prosecute its cheats rather than totally ignoring the posibility of cheats like other sports. Depends on which way you look at it. Anti-doping initiatives such as Operation Puerto found evidence of a number of athletes from a range of sports doping but only cycling has taken steps to charge people over it. Rumours abound over Italian football and even Rafael Nadal in terms of doping. The UCI and the cycling authorities have introduced 'biological passports' in an effort to monitor out of season doping - the only other sport that takes doping as seriously is athletics and that is also catching cheats.

Do not make the assumption that because no cheats are found a sport is clean, it is much more likely that nobody is actually looking! Despite a huge number of tests in this years Tour de France there has not yet been a single positive test (famous last words  ) which does rather contradict your statement.

Mark.

ps number 19 is on it's way!
To us? ;)

No way Mark!!!

Anyway you probably knew that I would have to defend him!
Unlike my fellow posters, I do not know whether he is guilty or not as I was only privy to what I read in the papers and saw on the tv.
so I really dont know.
If he was guilty then he deserved whatever was coming to him,but I guess we will never know.

Looked a bit like handbags to me.. not a proper bar brawl we have down our way. I think Gerrard is a decent bloke and don't think public money should be wasted on a frivolous case like this. I have done jury service and was shocked by the trivial cases that end up in front of a jury wasting tax payers money. Lastly I will never forget that brilliant goal Gerrard scored in the FA cup final against West Ham.

What has that got to do with the price of fish???????

This is the issue I think many have with this case. Like most on here I don't know the facts other than what has been reported. However I have a sneaking suspicion that due to his popularity being able to boot a pigs bladder about instead of a real job he is getting an easy ride. Also his ability to pay for the finest legal representation will always tilt the table and the fact it seemed to be 2 on one does not help the self defence case in my eyes.

I am sure he is a lovely bloke, kind to his mum and helps boys scouts cross the road but like many people in this messed up society get a (lot of) drink inside him and it seems he becomes a lout like any other boozed up yobbo.

:D

I too have no way of knowing whether he is guilty or not mate, so can only go on what I see. But based on what I have seen/heard/read about this case, along with similar cases of Roy Keane slapping some bird in a club, Bellamy doing similar etc, I have to believe that he would get away with it regardless of the truth, due to who he is, how much money he has and all the other nepetism that goes along with these people.

Regarding his general personality I have been privy to some (from the horse's mouth, so to speak) info on Steevee Gee due to a close connection, and while I reserve judgement as I wasn't there, let's just say that he is no angel in this case, and others that haven't made the news...

;)

Obviously no one be surprised by the not guilty verdict.

If your rich and famous you will literally get away with murder!!

Lets face it the general public is as thick a pig swill, they will always find the rich and famous not guilty.

As for him pleading that he was acting in self defence was a complete joke.

Not sure what pleading that he was acting in self defence has anything to do with a charge of affray?

As I understand it the charge of affray means that a person (of normal standing i.e. not a frail old age pensioner) in the vacinity of the incident would fear for his safety.

Well from the cctv footage if you were there seeing Gerrard deliver upper cut of upper cut I'm sure most of us would feel a little unsafe and get away from the incident??

In any case even if he had been found guilty, what would he have got? I guess a £2000 fine, which he earns in about 30 mins, and perhaps a cummunity order of about 100 hours.

Broken Britain........
