Hello, I’m wondering if there’s something I can buy like a universal bed or fences/guides/feathers.

I have a Sedgwick moulder it’s basically a metal bed nothing really to screw onto maybe a couple of holes at the side/front nothing on top. Is there a way to add a t slot or what’s the best universal way to add guides/wheels?

Is it best to make a wooden top bed and then I can bolt/screw to that?

Thanks in advance.

The Sedgwick should have come with Shaw Gards which are very good. I would however recommend getting yourself a Maggi powerfeed which makes it both far safer and gives a far better finish. The old Wadkins had a couple of tapped holes in the bed opposite the spindle to allow you to bot down back fences etc. however, a powerfeed makes these almost redundant. There are times where a back fence is an advantage and I usually just attach it overhead to the false fence I attach to the aluminium fences.

It entirely depends on what you actually plan on doing with the machine, it's very rare in typical work with a spindle moulder that you would need a false table, but they can be advantageous for some jobs.

Generally, just mock something together out of plywood that's large enough to reach the perimeter of the table and g-cramp it to the table, there's no need to be overly fancy.

Get a power feed is my number one advice. You can just drill and tap the bed to mount it.
You can get some really fancy fences and stuff from Aigner and others.
Normally there is a hood fixture to cover the head which the fences attach to somehow. It should be fairly easy to make something up.
Maybe using some aluminium extrusion etc.
Or look on ebay for something secondhand and adapt it.

I've tapped some extra holes into my Felder where I wanted some extra fixing points. Obviously check where you are going through but I was surprised how easy a job it was

No fence? That is the basic standard item and surely a Sedgwick spindle would have one - maybe to fit the holes you've spotted.
They've all got them here: https://www.google.com/search?sca_e...EAHWoQIqoQtKgLegQIExAB&biw=1258&bih=654&dpr=2
After the fence and the attached Shaw guard the next most essential item is a power feed.
Two push sticks advised at all points!
