Silicone grease for aerial connections (and many other uses)?

Hi

I was reading about aerial installations this evening and came across this article:

Other similar products to the Servisol are out there such as a Dow Corning version:

But it seems there are mixed opinions on the matter so I thought I'd tap into the knowledge on this forum. I'm primarily interested in its use for aerial connections, but as an aside I'm also interested in the many other potential uses listed in the above article.

Hello,
Silicon grease it good for keeping moisture out of connections and if you are in a marine environment will prevent the metal parts of contacts corroding. Vaseline can be used in a similar way, and you can get small amounts in small tins from a good supermarket.

The best stuff for aerial (and all general electrical connections) IMO is Contralube 770 which is designed for that very purpose. Not cheap to be fair but I have used it on many boats and land based connections and not had a failure as yet. Also a bit difficult to get at the moment for some reason.

Had a tube of the of the servisol version for years. You don't need a lot on aerial etc connections. Worst thing about it is if you use it to help fit an aerial connector ( f plug) to the cable you can't tighten the connector as your hands are slippy from the grease........
