Greggy:Thanks for the post.

Now I am thinking I want to find a way to resharpen my gouge and skew chisel but as usual I dont want to spend the money. So if I put an abrasive sheet on a face plate and run the lathe slowly, am I going to save myself a bomb? Or will I ruin my nice new tools?

Or is there a way to fit a nice white wheel to the lathe?

I used some MDF fitted a 1/4 coach bolt through the centre and use my drill to hold it, I attached a round disc of grade to it but I glued it try get a velcro disc and backing pad.

The other way is to make a cylindrical type same idea but you'll have to possibly glue it.

Other than that I grind once every so often and use the same stones I use to sharpen/hone chisels.

Hi John

Yes I used an old fine grit disc ( its so old I can't recall what grade). It was for sanding bumper bars prior them being chrome plated.
Best paper to use wet and dry is best for a honing process. EDITED Use oil as the lube.

I also use my stones many bargain shops have cheap Chinese double sided stones these are excellent for that quick edge.

Ok shaped gouges like finger nail or bowl are a bit harder but I have done them too. holding the stone in my hand and the tool in a vice when the arthritis plays up.

If you have a Dremel or similar might work for you.

Don't tell me that that big bird didn't teach you how to sharpen while he was there.
 Younger generation what will we do with them.
