I have the chance to buy a wadkin table saw, multico jointer, massive startrite bandsaw (20") incl. an extractor. It all came from a school workshop and is stored somewhere else now and has been used a bit but needs a bit of tlc.

The tablesaw and jointer are three phase, bandsaw single phase. Its good old solid stuff and I'm not lacking the room to store it. The guy who uses it now bought an inverter for the three phase which he says he will throw in.

So what do you reckon. He wants £1200 plus £250 for the inverter. is this a good price? The jointer is tidy enough but I somehow wonder if I'm better off buying a sheppach pt in the future, also own a small scheppach bandsaw whic could be sold on while I use the behemoth startrite. The table saw is probably the best piece of kit am I wrong of being a bit wary of 3 phase and inverters? i may get him down to a grand...

You could have a look on ebay to get idea of s/h price of this 3 phase kit.

Selly, if you can get a model and serial number on the Multico and the Wadkin (Wadkins have a serial number and a test numvber, both would be more useful) and maybe post me a couple of photos I'd be happy to give you an idea. I'd need the photos principly because I'd need to identify the machine types, condition and age to work out their approximate values. The Startrite is almost certainly a 501 bandsaw which were built from the early eighties onwards (is it a slightly yellowy metallic green?). They're really a 352 on steroids, but sadly never really gained much popularity as they were almost as expensive as the equivalent Wadkin B5/C5 when they appeared and from the mid-/late-1980s the Italians flooded the market with cheaper bandsaws effectively sealing their fate. But nonetheless a good machine. The Wadkin and Multico could be various models and depending on what they are it could well prove cheaper to replace the motors and starters than to buy the inverter (although there really isn't much in it to be honest).

If you'd like to do some of this off line please PM me

Oh Folks twas a sad site to behold!

I took a carpenter mate out to see it with me and the kit has been sadly abused. Bandsaw was still ok but the saw was bodged up to three phase and the lock nut for the blade was dodgy, it has generally been badly looked after, it was a sad sight to see. :(

The jointer was a 9" multico without some of the guards and I figured that it would be very slow braking. Having given it all a good look over it wasn't up to scratch I would have easily spent £200 getting it up to scratch and was unlikely to get change from £1100 for all the kit anyway.

I think I'll save up for some nice scheppach or jet kit and leave that where it was!
