Interestingly, once you find the stuff that's really about Jigs in these (after you've removed the rows, sniping and sundry other off-topic stuff 8) ) it seems to me that there is a concensus that a Jig section would be good, and some people would be happy to post to it, but it still doesn't exist?

Maybe I missed the post that said it was a bad idea/not possible?

I seemed to get the hint from somewhere that to have it would mean removing one of the other sections? If that is the case I'd advise against it, I think the sections we have now are very good.

I'm one of those members that looks at most of the projects and wishes i was that good :shock:

AFAIK the reason is not due to having restricted sections, at least this has never been mentioned.

What about a Jigs and Tips sticky where contributers are only allowed to make one post containing a link to their main article?

That way it would cover the "buried in the midst of a project thread" problems as well.

I see no practical reason not to have a Jig sub-section to the forum. The design and finishing sections of the forum are rather more quiet and specialised than Jigs, so I can't understand why there can't be one implemented. I'm all for it.

First let me say I'd like a jigs section too.

But whilst not wanting to put words in Charlies mouth I'm guessing the bloke has a life as well as maintaining this site. Remember we are all his guests here - we pay nothing for his hospitality and are in no place to make demands.

So ............... rather than demanding "something must be done!!" are there any computer wizzes prepared to do the work setting this up.?

I agree lurker. But setting up a website for jigs is easy. The point is that the members want it here on the forums. Sadly only Charlie can do that.

It's really not that hard to setup -- go into the admin section, click 'new forum' enter title, bosh, bob's your mothers brother.

Lets not forget that is also a money making asset to charlie, and so it should be, but he has to listen to the people that generate his traffic, we are effectively his customers, and it's wise to ensure your customers are happy and catered for.

Would any other business/interest ignore the wants/desires of the very people that support it?

Agree with Byron here in that it is easy to add a new forum to the others through the admin console....Its not a matter of having a life or not...it is very simple to do...
The only real blocker I can see (and please correct me if I am wrong) is whether or not there is some stipulation in the forum software licence that there can only be the current number of forums?

There are so many excellent free ones out there that it would be a shame if that was the case...
Not trying to knock or have a go at anyone but it seems like so many people are interested in adding to pros of this site by having a jig section that I struggle to understand why it can't be done...

Here's another vote for a jig section. After a new post is entered the "poster" could request the thread to be locked, and any discussions about it posted under the general or projects section. This would keep the section neat.

I just love seeing the wacky inventions some of the members use and its good to get ideas from them for potential new jigs.
