So LOML has been going on about a better shoe rack

So i wanted to try out a few techniques for later on for better projects

Some worked some didnt end result was ok but some of it was a faf for not much benefit

So construction was 18mm hardwood ply and a mixture of pocket holes and half slot interlocks like those old wall ornament holders my nan had

Then i made a face frame of pine stained and varnished in what b and q called light oak whick looked more like yellow pine ( you live and learn)

I made the face frame using pocket holes had to make a jig to get repeatable joints

The face frame is fixed to the painted ply with glue and biscuits

Top is an old pine shelf i found in the reduced aisle and stained to match the face frame made a balls up and almost cut it too small so had to patch it

Last was a bit of architrave as i moulding for the base

The face frame was a faf i should have nailed it but i didnt want to see the fixings

And the half slot interlocking joints were a pain to cut and get spot on

Still it does the job

For a "newbie" (which from your comments I assume you are - my apologies if you're not) I think you have every right to be proud of yourself. I certainly couldn't (haven't actually!) done any better. Well done.

Nice job which should earn you more than a few brownie points. Could be worth the purchase of a new tool or two?

Your workshop looks like a nice space to have.

Bob

PS. The kids seem to have far too many shoes. Should be 1 pair for school, 1 pair trainers for play and wellies for mud. In my day and all that .......................

3 pairs of shoes, you was lucky.
we had to go to school bare foot and borrow from the lost and found...............

you get the drift.

nice rack. :D

  Didn't tell my missus when I bought my SIP 01332 though she did ask some time later "what is that big iron thing in your workshop?" My reply " It's just a saw - had it for ages" seemed satisfactory.

Just couldn't bring myself to spend a grand on a KS120 though so bought a Makita recently instead.

I went back and forward on the ks120 and the LS19L but the reviews were a bit hit and miss for the makita

I tried the ks120 at axminster and fell in love lol

I was close to giving up my credit card on several occasions, back and forwards to Axi half a dozen times and swear it was shouting "buy me you miserable git", I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

I'm happy enough with the Makita though, does everything I ask of it.

Nice job on the shoe rack. Misses Ray has been pestering me for ages so might have to give in...
