A selection of turned Pewter finials I made from melted down tankards.
Thanks, I love turning these, speed has to be highThey look excellent Adam
Exactly, that's why they're abundantNow there's a use for that obnoxious thing I was given at age 21. Too naff to even leave down the pub !
Mostly carbide for Pewter and mainly the detail tool due to the small non catchy tip, for tiny details a 10 mm skewThey look lovely, what tools do you use?
It is soft enough yes, if you don't mind having to keep stopping to sharpen that is, yes i make moulds from wood.Pewter is soft enough to be turned with standard woodturning tools.
Are you making moulds from wood or something else?
I melt it in an old saucepan on a camping stove..... and i'm anti dent, fair measures all the wayNice work. How do you melt the pewter and in what, blow lamp or something special?
As an aside, one of the odd items on antiques roadshow last week was a flat bottomed conical lignum vitae "pint" used as a former for biffing the dents out of pewter tankards in ale houses to ensure fair measure.
