Hi,

Not sure if this is the best place to post but I'm after some advice on eco insulation.

I've just put up a 16' by 8' shed for a workshop (Waltons Groundsman, after seeing some threads on here!) and I want to insulate it to keep all the tools/materials (and me) safe and dry. I would prefer to go with something environmentally friendly so I've been looking at these two products:
Hemp Insulation and
Thermafleece

The hemp works out about £50 less for what I want. I'm slightly woried about the weight of the hemp insulation and whether the shed would need any re-inforcing in any way?

I'm also not sure what to use as the breathable membrane. The shed is preconstructed so coud I just fit this between the studs? And what product and where to buy it?

One other thing (sorry) In my haste to get it put up, I didnt insulate the underside of the floor. It is raised of the ground on airated blocks with DPM over the top of them. I now want to re-inforce the floor (and plug the gaps) by adding 18mm loft boards (chipboard) I have spare. Should I cover the floor with DPM before I lay these or just put them down as they are? I don't think they are the moisture resistant type.

Sorry to ask so much at once, I just get on a roll.

Cheers

Slart, it makes it much easier to reply if you sign off with a christian name, that said, I done the same as you but used con blocks, laid the shed floor, upped the walls and fitted the roof, then I laid and SCREWED 18mm t&g loft boarding, lined the walls with 40mm kingsmill insulation boards (same in the roof) and then sealed all with 9mm t&g all over, result-warmth.

regards,
Rich.

Thanks for the reply Rich.

Did you put anything between the shed flooring and the loft boards? Damp proof membrane or Polythene or anything? Have you had any issue with damp floor / swelling?

Cheers
Steve

(sorry I wash rushing on the last post, didn't mean to be rude. Duty called! (swmbo))

Forget the floor its difficult to do after construction for the walls and roof you need insulation with foil backing to stop water vapour passing through it or insulate between studs then apply a vapour barrier which is usually boarded over for protection and looks.
