Hi all,
I did search this topic but the most relevant info was 6 years old so thought it might be worth asking again, does anyone have a personal recommendation for a sawmill in Hampshire?
I'm about to become the owner of a big piece of oak (assuming I can get it out of it's garden) that I hope will be worth cutting into slabs.
I've never dealt with anything like this before so i'm only assuming that a sawmill is the obvious next step, but any other suggestions would be appreciated too.

While you're here, i'm still struggling with the logistics of getting a log onto a vehicle, in the absence of a Matt Cremona style A-frame trailer and winch I thought hiring a tipper or dropside and offering beers for assistance would be my best bet, basically just manhandling it on. Are there any other methods that I've not considered?
The log in question is 25 inches diameter and could be as long as 10ft or so, depending where I decide to cut it...

Get it boarded on site with an Alaskan mill. Google for Alaskan mill agent in hordle Hampshire. The agent for the mills there is called rob and he brings a mill. No idea on cost but barter might be possible as he sells timber?

Try Paul Goulden at Goulden Hardwoods. He specialises in milling small amounts of English hardwoods. Located just west of Newbury.

I heard there is a lot of wastage due to the big kerf with an Alaskan Mill which put me off originally, but it certainly would take away a lot of the faff of transporting the whole log, i'll look into it

Thanks i'll check it out, although Newbury is about an hour away, something closer would be preferable...

Does anyone have any contact info for this Rob the miller chap? Googling only gives me the Alaskan mill website which only seems to sell products...

Google" Alaskan hordle" and the first hit gets you there.

That doesn't work for me (interestingly I get different results on my computer and on my phone) would you be able to copy paste a link?
