Routing Query

Hi,

can anyone advise?

Is it possible to rout the edge of either ply or MDF board on a 45 degree angle using a router table with some sort of jig or is it just a no no?

I don't have a router table, but as far as I know, if you have a 45degree cutter in the router, and set the fence up to the point you want you would just push the ply or MDF flat on the table over the cutter.

Or if you have a 45degree bearing guided cutter, you could clamp a flat edge underneath the ply or MDF and just run the bearing along that and bevel away.

Maybe perhaps you could elaborate on why you would want to, I can't see what this could achieve that couldn't be achieved another way.

Its for a radiator cabinet, hard to explain but Ive got to put a 45 degree angle on it the avoid a fitted wardrobe door hitting the corner.

I know I could do it on a tablesaw however I thought I would get a cleaner face if it was done by a router.

Yes, I have done it. Quite easy to do. Just set up a fence and make several passes until the full mitre is achieved.

Someone on the forum did it when making a mitred box - DevonWoody, perhaps?

Do it on a table with a 45deg. cutter running tight to the fence, done it quite a few times, easy this way.
