Replacement spring required - but what to search for?

Hi

In my family is a vintage rocking horse that I and various others played on. It's a tin(?) horse that attaches to a tubular steel frame via 4 springs.

However, at some point one of the springs has gone missing, so I either need to find a suitably sized replacement, or a set of 4.

Googling "springs" brings up about eleventy-nine million hits, so can you hlp me narrow it down by advising if this sort of shape spring has a particular name?

I have one that's just over 5" in my hand, and I have several more (somewhere) - if you don't have any joy PM me your address and I'll send you four. They came off a bed a neighbour threw out and I'm a skip rat. You could make up the length with chain links as long as all the springs were the same.

"Pull spring" or "hook spring" on Google brings up lots of similar style springs but pin pointing exact spec will be difficult. You'll need to work out the weight of the spring, a luggage scale should give you some idea, then it's just dimensional checks.

7" trampoline springs look similar.

Tension Spring, I buy mine from Nick Ashton here: https://springsandthings.me.uk/product-category/tension_springs/page/2/ but they don't seem to have anything that thickness. The best thing would be to measure the outer diameter of the spring and the wire thickness and possibly give Nick an email or a phone call and ask if he can get a hold of something similar.

Matching springs is a nightmare unless you know the strength of the spring. The length/ diameter/ gauge measurements are only the start of the conversation when you ring up a spring company. What they really want to know is how strong it is. However, I have to say that there are some helpful companies in the West Midlands who provided me with lots of springs at very good prices when I needed them for something I was developing, but more importantly, they were able to offer useful advice. Of course, I have no idea at all how to find them now.

Thanks all. I figured it would probably be a pain to find one, so a set of 4 new ones seems to be a sensible approach.

I'll give the trampoline springs a try, and if that doesn't work, then try some of the mentioned specialists.

A random thought...

Just looking at RogerM's kitchen projectand being intrigued by the mixer lift I see that Hafele sell replacement (150N) springs , would they be any good?
