Ive been using cascamite glue, but i want to do some work with mahogony where i will need to make a laminate, and i think the cascamite will be too light.

Is there a standard go-to glue for working with darker coloured woods?

Thank you

regular white PVA has worked just fine for me, on genuine mahogany and sapele, it dries transparent/clear with no colour, unless there's massive gaps you won't see it.

Thank you - so you think I should just crack on with the cascemite?

I'm all for not having to buy something else!

For bent lamination work a UF glue like Cascamite has definite advantages over PVA. You can tint Cascamite by adding earth pigments, but in my experience it's not really worth the trouble. It's true that PVA gives a slightly better glue line than UF or epoxy, but if you cramp the job up tight and make sure all the mating surfaces are true and clean, then Cascamite (or any UF glue for that matter) offers the best overall solution for bent laminations, don't forget the much longer open time of Cascamite is also useful.

For flat laminations that won't be exposed to exterior conditions the equation changes, and PVA is back in consideration, for me it would then come down to how much open time you need.

Good luck!

I've just finished gluing up the base for a kitchen butchers block thingy for my son, made up from reclaimed school science bench tops, sapele I think, I laminated the legs out of 3 section to give 80mm square and used my usual Titebond, not tinted but I've always found it to be very reliable.
