I think
Just to let you know that the problem i had with the banjo on my Hegner lathe has been solved :D
I used my electric sander with fine paper on and cleaned every part that is in contact with the banjo, but i think the main problem was the paint on the underside of the bed.
This was an orange peal effect, but as now been sanded smooth, and the banjo just glides along once again, though i haven't turned anything on it yet so whether the dust will be a problem i will have to wait and see,but somehow i think it won't.Fingers crossed :D
If this doesn't work then i will try the suggestions i have been given.

Paul,

Glad to hear you got it sorted, I had wondered if there could have been bits of finish on the top surface, although in this case it seems that wasn't the problem. I usually try to put a piece of newspaper over the bed when I'm applying a finish to stop this, when I remember :D

Cheers,

Dod

May be telling Gran how to suck eggs, but I spray a wax polish on the bed or table and wipe off any surplus and leave to dry. When you then move the rest or what ever it should glide nice and easy and dust tends not to stick / build up so much on the bar or table. \:D/ Nice to know that you have the problem sorted. Until the next one!! Life would be boring without problems.

Thanks everyone :D
The banjo worked a treat when i first had it,but all of a sudden it just wouldn't move, until i cleaned it,and waxed it,but the dust and shavings would lock it up again, needing both hands to move it :?
The paint underneath the bars didn't have any ridges in like i thought it would, due to wear, but when they were sanded only the paint as come off on the outer edges, showing that the tubing isn't flat or a thicker layer of paint.
