This nice bill hook came my way. I do like a good weighted one like this. They are great to split green timber to make temp fences.

But this one had been abused.

The blades was slowly dressed back on a wet stone. Then with an oil stone given a good edge.

The handle was removed, sanded in a lathe and a few coats of French polish applied.

All ready for use.

How did you refit the same handle? I have tried in the past and had to shorten the handle slightly to get enough tang out to peen over.

I did.
I find it is best to shave off the extra wood and the ferrule end.
You only need about 2 to 3mm remomed.
