Hi all,
sometime ago I was looking for ideas for a presentation box to hold a couple of CDs. The question was asked on this forum, and some good replies came back.
I finally went with a version of Stef's suggestion, and made a pull-out tray within a sleeve.
The wood is oak, and was kept inside prior to making. The wood came from Whitmores, so I am confident it is good quality.
A rectangular framework was dovetailed together to ensure squareness,
then one long side was cut off to make the opening. Two panels were veneered on the bandsaw then thicknessed and glued to the framework. Thus the outer sleeve was made.
The internal tray to hold the CDs is a solid piece of wood which had a suitable recess turned on the lathe. It houses 2 CDs, and although the photo doesn't show it, also had a small hollow sanded out to allow the CDs to be removed from the tray.
A pull "knob" (sorry, can't think of the correct term at the moment) was turned out of African Blackwood to enable the tray to be easily removed.
The whole thing was finished with 2 coats of danish oil, and 2 coats of wax.
My son's face was a picture when he was given it, as it is a momento of his first concert, which purely by chance was being recorded.
Thanks once again for all the design help and ideas, and I hope the photos are ok as it is my first attempt.
