Hello the main body finish was chestnuts cellulose sanding sealer followed by their friction polish and acrylic paints for the hats and buttons.Everyone knows what the difference between a snowman and snow girl is, right?
I love the finish on those. What is it please?

Spalted usually equals soft so make sure your edge is razor sharp, I use CA glue to harden really soft spots, you can use the black lines to help hide the staining from the glue, it will look like part of the spalting.Well as it's getting towards that season, I figured I'd join the rest of you. Here's the first of this year's Christmas trees. Spalted beech that would otherwise be on my wood burner. One of last years is in the background. (I tend to put a ball on the top as I have a fear of one of my nephews/neices poking themselves or each other in the eye)

Only been turning for 18months and this is the first spalted piece I've done. I've got a load more so will probably try some bowls in the coming months.
Great minds think alike so they say ! Processed a pile of wood logs for my next on the market list to do then finished of the last of the Christmas tree baubles retouched the base of the bauble display stand so it will stand straight. Then turned my first tree of the year copied from one I'd done last year had a play with warer based walnut preservative to create a mottled design on the footand a photo of last years tree for comparison and Stigmorgan those deep undercuts really sets your tree apart gorgeous mountain ashWas getting bored of Christmas decorations so made a big tree today from a Mountain Ash log, all sections undercut fairly deeply.

Disagree that natural edge off sets your equal symmetry really well to give a stunning lookMountain Ash is gorgeous,
Those are both gorgeous
I really like the look that undercutting gives, especially with the bottom natural edge, I also get caught up a bit too much with measuring the sections so that each one increases with height as well as diameter, think I got the ratio almost perfect on this one, top to bottom the sections are 3cm 4cm 5cm 6cm and 7cm, just wish I'd takin the top of the bottom section in a little more as to me it looks too wide and doesn't line up with those above it.
