Something simpler.... A trinket/potpourri holder made from Ovangkol

A colleague announced this morning that he and his partner are expecting their first baby so using a couple of pieces of cherry I've made a rattle for them, only 95% happy with it as the entrance hole broke so now the join is obvious, will decide on Monday if I'm gonna give it to him or make another. Finished with 800grit and Johnson's baby oil

Another Salt Pig from today, this one is my smallest so far at 4" wide and it's a birthday pressie for my mother.

Been learning to do wing bowls over the last few weeks result so far five completed two catastrophes. Red cedar a snarly piece of lyla bush and ash are the woods use

A quick Ash bowl today, started with a round that was about 8inches but a crack had developed so by the time I had turned it almost completely away I was left with about 5.5 inches, sanded to 320g and finished with wax, this is from the tree across from school that I collected back in January, surprisingly dry already.

Had to remove a large limb from a conifer today and decided to turn a few little trees just for the fun of it and to see how they react as they dry out, other limbs that I've had to remove in the past have not split or cracked at all even after months. I also turned a twig pot from a childs wooden bowling pin, possibly cherry.

Was challenged to turn some crochet hooks so I split some cherry and had a go, I think they're a bit short but the challenger will test them out, took ages to cut/file/sand the hook, no finish just sanded to 500g, raised the grain then lightly sanded with 600g

Outside finished of a Cherry and resin bowl - the wood was really soft in places inside the burr so I am posting these now in case it falls apart when I do the inside!!

So sometimes I find the wood dictates what shape it wants to be, I had intended turning a very simple bowl with this piece of Sycamore but I somehow ended up with this shape....

I hope so, I've only got 6 weeks to get as many decoration pieces done as I can so will spend most of my time now restocking the hanging trees, bells and snowmen, on 29th November I've agreed to a stall at my local scout groups evening event, I won't be taking many of the bigger pieces as transporting everything there and back will be a pain and I believe I only get one 6ft table which is costing me £10 and a gift for their raffle, figure I'll make more money on the little stuff

That’s lovely - as I kid I remember chopping down Sycamores at home and splitting them into firewood - if I knew then….!

I rough turned this last month and sat it in a bucket full of shavings, after 3 weeks I tested it with my moisture meter and it hadn't reduced much at all. I popped it in the dehydrator, set at 35c and gave it a day and when out of the machine, the walls were showing 0% moisture and the base around 9%. I left it for a few days, thinking it'd absorb some moisture and settle.

Second turning was a bit of a pain to be fair, I just couldn't quite get my bowl gouge to cut as well as I'd have liked, it was bouncing quite a bit due to the bowl having changed shape. I resorted to using my 1" scraper, that made it a bit easier at least.

The wood already had plenty of cracks and fissures, possibly my fault for not cutting the blank right from the crotch in the first place? Anyway, I ordered some thin Black CA and tried filling the larger cracks, far from perfect results, but I was getting impatient and ploughed on regardless.

Anyway, here it is, warts and all. It finished up being 8" across and a little over 4" high.

I got a lovely set of hollowing tools for my birthday (from shopmonkeypro tools here in Exmouth) so had to have a go. First attempt seemed to be going smoothly until it exploded! Fortunately I was able to find the pieces and glue them back together, sand and finish. I had got down to about 1/16" in one place and I think the explosion was caused by a little knot hole which I have now used to make it into a string dispenser!
