Further to my other thread about copying , originality etc, I keep getting prepared to have a play but find the wood stops me!

Nearly all the wood I have available is yew at the moment and every time I cut into it, it reveals such beauty that I am loathe to mess around with it and just turn out yet another 'boring' bowl. Except they aren't of course. The wood is terrific.

How I wish I had some plain old boring wood so I can experiment a bit without feeling I am wasting such quality timber.

I have heard of some poplar going so I might just get the chance to have a hack!

If its the Mimizan just south of Bordeaux then you pass quite close. We are just south of Angouleme. Pop something plain in the boot and I'll swap you some yew!! Its pretty green though but still wunnerful.

Gus - Have you been following the thread in the General Woodworking forum on Yew ? Somewhat appropriate seeing you're in France - do you have all your fingers still?

Had a look! I have four whole trees including all the thin stuff at the top.

Hadn't thought about making bows!! I seem to manage the sign of victory though, even with all eight fingers remaining.
here yew is called 'IF'. I am trying to think of a smart line but can think of none.

Maybe "IF a man could be two places at one time, I'd be with yew"?

Is that 'Nope - I don't have all my fingers still' ... or 'Nope - I haven't looked!'

Sounds good. Don't know how much you will want but there is a reasonably large supply. Lots of medium sized and small bits as well as some big bits.

The woodpile at the back is for burning but just about everything else and definitely the green stuff is yew, including the thin stuff leaning on the woodpile.!
