plastic glue

Anyone know a good glue for sticking cork to plastic. I.e. cork sheeting being stuck to clamp faces (bessey K-clamps, so plastic/nylon)

I would use double sided tape.

On that note if you wanted something a bit more grippy and capable of handling a textured surface there's a very highly tacky fairly dense foam based tape sold under the 'No More Nails' brand that's a bit pricey, but sticks like **** to a blanket.

If you really want to glue the cork on the chances are that Bostik or Evo Stik contact would work quite well - coat both surfaces and let it dry for 15 min or so. Then it's instant grab.

Unless the plastic is something very weird cyanoacrylate (superglue) would probably stick strongly too provided everything is clean and you use a polyolefin primer like the liquid one that Loctite sells for plastic bonding...

Apart from some plastics.... I use plastic clamps and blocks covered in parcel tape when using epoxy as i know they won't stick to the job.

I'd rough up the side plastic on the side to be glued and then use contact adhesive. Spread on both parts, wait a few minutes, touch together then rub along the join to ensure good contact all along finally clamp lightly over night.

It depends a bit on the plastic Richard. The 'oilier' ones like polyethylene and polypropylene (the polyolefins i mentioned) that don't wet well generally don't bond at all well with epoxies. Something a bit more wettable like ABS will bond with it, but it's still pretty marginal....

Thanks for the reply. On reflection I never have used it to stick plastic together, usually metal to wood (or visaversa) I will remember that for the future!!

Double sided tape is good, from experience animal hide glue works on record and pony sash clamps - both of these are reversible when the cork gets knackered.
