I cant see your link because I have a different IP so it wont show it for security reasons.

I dont know the legal standing but I have never paid VAT or any other duty on a download from abroad, whether you should or not is an interesting question.

If you brought the CD ina box and it was shipped to you it would be liable to import duty, vat etc so I suppose in theory yes it should be liable to all those.

Will be interested to hear the legal position.

This has been the norm for several years. There is a box to enter a VAT number in which case VAT is not charged. No idea if you entered a VAT number from off any old invoice......would they come and lock you up for fraud?

There are some very good free options around that can handle most day to day image manipulation jobs. They are comparable with most of the popular file formats.

Check out The Gimp for bitmap images.

Or Inkscape for vector graphics.

And there's K-3D for your 3-D design projects.

They're available in all OS flavours. :wink:

Does that mean that gimp opens a photoshop format (psd) or only windows bitamp?

^^ Yes, The Gimp handles psd files no problem. You can open and save as .psd. Used to need a plugin but it's included with the main package now. You'll only have a problem if a layer has some weird filter effect which Gimp doesn't recognise. Gimp can do most things you'll ever reasonably need to do re photo manipulation. There are lots of new features planed for the next release.

You might be interested to know that Inkscape can create and edit pdf files too. No need to pay bundles for Acrobat.

Thanks Mrfixit for the info, I have recently switched out of paint shop pro (corel ones) over to Serif photo plus because the corel stuff runs too slow.
Perhaps I will go back to Gimp and download again, didnt like it a few years ago, it might be the problem of learning new things.

RogerS, re the link to the hotoshop cheapie above I wonder if it is a scam?
If someone entered an unauthorised vat number and then found that he could not get a download because it was a scam he could hardly complain to the credit card company without laying himself open to the vat input. (But me I a have always had a suspicious mind)

^ As a Linux user I've only ever used Gimp. So I find most other photo software quirky and irrational by comparison. :lol:

You can customise the layout and dock all your tools and stuff in one window, then do your work in the main work area. Give GIMPshop a spin if you want a more familiar looking desktop.

I would stay well away from regnow.com aka digitalriver.com. They are a legit looking software licencing company but have a list of angry customers as long as your arm. From a whois check and google search, it's a very badly run (verging on fraudulent) outfit by the look of it. It's a bucket shop. Buy your software from the official site or trusted third party vendors.
