I currently run on Windows XP and I have accepted a file into my received files. I no longer require this file and wish to delete it. I now find I cannot delete this file and keep getting an acess denied message telling me to make sure the disc is not full or write protected. Any suggestions to remove it?

Thanks

Gary

Depending on what type the file is, Safe Mode usually deal with such problems.

When starting up, hit the F8 key to give you a menu of options. Choose "Safe Mode" and eventually you'll get a box telling you that Windows is running in diagnostic mode and that all drivers will not be loaded. "OK" that, then bring up Windows Explorer, find the file and delete it.

you can try a program called 'C Cleaner' it helps clear away stubbon stains and ground on rust in terms of PC's that is.

There could be several reasons why this is happening:

1. The file may be protected. You could try right clicking on the file and selecting Properties. In the Attributes section check to see that there are no ticks against Read-Only or Hidden

2. The file could be in use by another running program. Depending on what the program is you may be able to terminate it by going into Task Manager (Caution here many of the listed apps are vital for Windows):
Press CTRL + ALT + Delete select Processes tab and check the list for the suspected program. Highlight it and select End Process button

3. Another way is to use the System Configuration Utility:
Go to Start button select Run then type "msconfig" (without the quotes)
On the General tab select Diagnostic Startup then apply
You will be prompted to restart computer
When computer restarts try deleting the offending file.
You will need to run msconfig again and select Normal Startup

Hope this might be of some help

Cheers :D

Don't know if this will work but had a similar problem before and the easiest way that I found was to right click near the file to make a new folder and then drag the file into the folder and then delete the folder - for some reason this would delete the folder and the file that couldn't be deleted simply by trying to delete it!!
